Two days workshop by Tabla and Sitar maestro Pt. Nayan Ghosh

A two days workshop by well known Tabla and Sitar maestro Pt. Nayan Ghosh was organized by BVDU School of Performing Arts, Pune.

On the first day Pt. Nayan Ghosh gave history and evolution of Tabla, explained various Gharanas in Tabla along with their special features, also taught various gats to Students.

On the second day he explained history of Sitar along with how this particular instrument got developed. He also demonstrated Gayaki and Tantrakari styles on Sitar. He also taught and explained aesthetics in presenting Raga in Indian Classical Music.

School of Performing Arts has been arranging workshops of legendary artistes in Music and Dance. These workshops give a golden opportunity to students to be in a company of Maestros. This direct interaction with great Gurus and Artistes motivates students for their future.

In a two day workshop, Pt. Ajay Pohankar demonstrated special features of Ustad Amir Khan, Bade Gulam Ali Khan’s singing. He also made students understand the different features of Thumari by teaching them few Thumaris.

Famous Vocalist and Musicologist Pt. Vidyadhar Vyas was invited to conduct a workshop in School of Performing Arts. Different compositions in Music like Tarana, Chatarang, Trivat were explaind by him along with a rendering of the same. Students learned some very peculiar Chatarang, Tarana and Trivat in this workshop.

Students got a wonderful opportunity to learn about Maihar Gharana from world famous artist Pt. Ronu Majumdar in a workshop conducted by him. Ronuji also talked about the training he received under the able guidance of Pt. Ravi Shankar and Gayaki, Tantrakari style in playing flute.

Two day workshop of Padmabhushan Pt. Rajan and Padmabhushan Pt. Sajan Mishra was conducted at School of Performing Arts. They enfolded the process of ‘Raag - Vistar’ and aesthetics of Bandish along with nuances of Semi Classical forms of Music. It was a bliss for students to learn few compositions from Legendary artistes Pt. Rajan and Pt. Sajan Mishra

Two day workshop by Dr. Vikas Kashalkar dealt with origins of Gharana, aesthetics and special features of each Gharana. Scientific and detailed study of ‘Samprakrutik Raag’ was brought forth along with melodious presentation by Dr. Vikas Kashalkar.

Students of Kathak and Bharatnatyam understood the concept of Karan by recreating it on their own in their particular style under the gudience of Pt. Roshan Datye. Today’s dance styles do have movements and aesthetical approach mentioned in Natyashastra – This realization changed student’s approach towards ancient texts. This workshop highlighted the relevance of tradition in present day dance technique.

workshop on ‘Aesthetics of pure Dance compositions in Kathak ’, was conducted by renowned Kathak exponent and Guru Pt. Shama Bhate. In a very interesting manner, Shamatai enfolded the technique and principles of Kathak, handed down to her by her Guru. Late Pt. Rohini Bhate and other great Gurus in Kathak.

Dr. Sucheta Chapekar, a well known Bharatnatyam exponent and Guru expressed valuable and deep thoughts on ‘Abhinay and Aesthetics’ in a workshop held in School of Performing Arts. She underlined the importance of Aangik, Vachik, Aaharya and Satvik Abhinay mentioned in Natyashastra. She brought forth the intricacies and subtleties of Bharatnatyam in detail through audio visual presentation. Suchetatai taught one Abhinay composition to students in this workshop.

In today’s techno world the field of music offers you wonderful range of opportunities, Applied Music is one of such opportunities. There is lot to study and to know in the field of Applied Music. It is very important for students to understand the concept and fine details of this subject from experienced and successful artistes working in the field. Keeping this in mind, School of Performing Arts had organized a workshop on the same subject by Shri. KoushalInamdar, a well-known figure in Applied Music. He expatiated on advertisement, Cine Music, Background Score and their scope. It set a bench mark for an ideal workshop.

A two day workshop by the world renowned Kathak exponent Pandita Maneesha Sathe, was organized. She unfold the origin of Dance, history of Kathak, Special features of different classical dance styles in a very interesting manner. She spoke at length on the ideal Vastukram of Kathak.

Tabla workshop by Pt. Arwind Kumar Azad was conducted by the School of Performing Arts. He gave the students some valuable tips for an ideal Riyaz. Later he talked about Banaras Gharana, its special features, style of playing, Fard, Bant, StutiParan etc. he demonstrated the accompaniment for Kathak.

A character portrayal is an integral part of any Indian Classical Dance styles. A two day workshop by Dr. Swati Daithankar on ‘Character Analysis’ was organized by School of Performing Arts. Students got to learn nuances of Character Changes along with a composition. ‘Rasa Bhav’, the most talked about concept in Indian Classical Dance, was explained in detail by her.

Sattriya is a Classical Dance form of India originated from the Sattra Monasteries, Assam. This is a rarely known dance form in western region of India. The School of Performing Arts has taken first of its kind initiative and arranged two days’ Workshop of Guru Paramananda Barbayan on Sattriya Dance. He described the 500 years living Dance tradition - Sattriya. The basic dance units of Sattriya Mati- Akharas. Students enjoyed the workshop.

Dr. Vasanth Kiran’s two day’s Kuchipudi workshop commenced with the history of ‘Kuchipudi. Various types of body techniques of Kuchipudi dance were demonstrated in this workshop like – Ushi, Utplavan, Bhramari, etc. Along with traditional nayak – nayika compositions the new compositions were also taught by Dr. Vasanth Kiran. The workshop benefited all the dance students by adding to their dance vocabulary.

School of Performing Arts had organized workshop of Pt. Shrinivas Joshi featuring Aesthetical elements of Kirana Gharana and the Gayaki of Bharatratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Pt. Shrinivas Joshi spoke on Swara Lagav, Raga elaboration technique of Kirana Gharana. He also discussed in detail about the presentation of Thumari in Kirana Gharana and other related topics. Later he talked at length about Gayaki of his father Late Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and his Riyaz techniques. Students also learned some special compositions of Kirana Gharana.

Events Organized by School of Performing Arts:

School of performing arts is a very vibrant center. Giving an opportunity to perform is the most essential part of School of performing Arts’s activities. These are open programs where students and visitors get a chance to witness talent of our various students.

Every year School of Performing Arts organizes different events. Different forms of music are presented in these events. To make students aware of other forms of music, along with classical music semi classical, light, folk music is also included in these Events. Likewise, classical dance and themes based on classical dance are presented. Radha, Pratibimb, Anubhooti are the presentations of School of performing arts which have acquired a special appreciation by audience.

‘Anubhooti’ an important yearly program, was organized this year for three days. On 1st day presentations of Varakari and Naradiya Kirtan by our Kirtan students created very devotional environment. On 2nd day our Music students presented their art, also various Choreographies were presented by our Dance students. On 3rd day ‘Jawali’ a unique concept in Bharatnatyam dance style was presented by renowned Bharatnatyam dancer and respected Guru in School of Performing Arts Dr. Swati Daithankar. All the performances were highly appreciated by the audience.

Swar Spandan

Swar Spandan:

With the initiatives of Hon’ble Dr. Vishwajit Kadam, secretary of Bharati Vidyapeeth , School of Performing Arts organized ‘Swar Spandan’, a music concert featuring legendary artists like Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Pt. Rajan and Pt. Sajan Mishra As a concluding event for the Golden Jubilee celebration of Bharati Vidyapeeth, at Bharati Vidyapeeth Educational Campus Paud Road on 3 rd May 2015 .

At the beginning of Swar Spandan Students of School of performing arts performed Folk Orchestra which had won first prize at the National Youth Festival and was invited to perform at the South Asian International Universities youth festival at Udaipur in March 2015. This presentation was followed by short vocal recital by Mr. Nagnath Adgaonkar, student of School of Performing Arts, who has been National winner for two consecutive years. These presentations were highly appreciated by audience. It was rare opportunity for students to perform on the same dice that of Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Pt. Rajan and Pt. Sajan Mishra. Many great exponents of classical music and dance were seen appreciating the music evening. Around 3500 music lovers gathered at this event.

Dr. Patangrao Kadam Hon’ble Founder Chancellor of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Hon’ble Secretary Dr.Vishvajeet Kadam along with other officials of Bharati Vidyapeeth graced the function with their presence.

Swar Spandan added a glory to the history of Bharati Vidyapeeth. Hon’ble Secretary Mr. Vishwajit Kadam announced Swar Spandan will be yearly feature in Bharati Vidyapeeth’s calendar. Swar Spandan will be the most awaited event where people will get to see the maestros as well as aspirants in Music and Dance.

Swaranubhuti:

‘Swaranubhuti’ a musical program was organized by Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) School of Performing Arts and Swaranjali on 14th May 2017. The program featured a vocal recital by Dr. Mohankumar Darekar and a Unique Jugalbandi of Flute and Samvadini by Pt. Ronu Majumdar and Pt. Sharangdhar Sathe. Audience was mesmerized with the Jugalbandi.
